Open source ≠ everything open. Keep observing — legally.
xAI has partly open-sourced the For You ranking slice at xai-org/x-algorithm (public OSS signal). That is a start, not the whole product: clients, APIs, policy surfaces, and many services still reward authorized public reverse-engineering and observation with REA + any coding agent (Hermes, Dots, Grok Bot, Claude, Codex, …).
signal.
Every source is tagged public / authorized. No crack, exploit, or unauthorized access —
see /compliance/.
Public signal sources (seed)
| Source | Note | Compliance | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| xai-org/x-algorithm (For You ranking slice) | Partly open-sourced feed-ranking algorithm. Treat as a public code signal for ranking hypotheses — not a map of the whole X stack. | Public OSS · authorized to read/cite · not a license to probe private backends | partial |
| Public developer docs (docs.x.com) | Documented API surfaces, auth patterns, and rate-limit language visible to developers. | Public documentation only | needs-work |
| Client-visible For You / Following behavior | What a normal logged-in client can see: tabs, refresh, public engagement affordances. Observation ≠ scraping private APIs. | Own account · public UX observation · no unauthorized access | seed |
Seed architecture hypothesis — public client → API edge → ranking slice
Gold dashed boxes are falsifiable hypotheses. Blue solid boxes are public/citable. x-algorithm is a partial OSS signal for For You ranking — open source ≠ the whole product.
Signal Atlas
Catalog public client/API-visible behavior, protocol fingerprints, and public configs.
archArchitecture Hypotheses
Falsifiable system diagrams, data flows, and service-boundary hypotheses with agents.
behaviorBehavior Models
Testable models of public feed, rate-limit, ranking, and auth flows.
Hard compliance
Public citable signals only. No unauthorized access, crack, exploit, credential theft, or intrusive probing of non-public backends. Primary CTAs stay on rea.run — not competitor docs as the main path. Full policy: compliance.
